“My name is a gift” – Sam Rush Workshop Poem!
“My name is a gift” by Alli Rosenfeld.
My name is a gift.
It was given to me,
By my parents
For my birthday.
My name is a gift.
Wrapped up so nice,
A box with a bow
And no receipt.
My name is a gift.
I gave it to you,
So you can call
Me to your side.
My name is a gift.
It was for you,
But you gave it back
When you finished.
My name is a gift.
A present for me to keep,
Something to use
And hold forever.
My name was a gift.
I wish it wasn’t so.
I wish I could give it back.

I love when writers can make simple sentences and phrases so powerful, and Alli, you’ve done it!
My favorite line is that first stanza!
