Hi everyone, and welcome to Unleashed’s first list of fun facts. As one of those people who still doesn’t remember their social security number but for whatever reason can remember pointless information (like when Sweden switched to driving on the right hand side of the road), I am constantly annoying those around me with needless facts. And now, thanks to the power of the internet, that includes all of you readers. Enjoy!

 

  1. Sweden officially switched to driving on the right hand side of the road on September 3, 1967. This day is known as H Day, or Högertrafikomläggningen.

 

  1. It randomly rained meat in Kentucky for about 7 minutes in March once. This event is known as the Kentucky Meat Shower.

 

  1. The building that houses Bocado in Worcester used to be the site of famous anarchist Emma Chapman’s ice cream shop.

 

  1. The monkey wrench was invented in Worcester.

 

  1. The reason banana flavored candy doesn’t taste like bananas is because the flavoring is based off of a special type of banana that went extinct in the 1950s.

 

  1. There is a species of fungus called zombie fungus that infects ants, takes over the motor centers in their brains, and forces them to climb trees.

 

  1. Play-Doh was first marketed as wallpaper cleaner.

 

  1. During the Victorian era there was a large movement that believed that mummified remains could be used medicinally.

 

  1. A polar bear’s fur is actually clear, not white.

 

  1. Koalas sleep 18-22 hours a day.
